Typhoon Matmo moved across the inland areas of Guangxi to the northern part of Vietnam and progressively weakened into a tropical depression yesterday, and an anticyclone aloft also covered southeastern China gradually. Locally, the weather was mainly cloudy with one or two showers at first. There were sunny intervals during the day. The anticyclone aloft is expected to bring generally fine and very hot weather to Guangdong in the next couple of days.

At 11 p.m. last night, Tropical Depression Matmo was centred about 290 kilometres west of Nanning. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour across the inland areas of the northern part of Vietnam and dissipate gradually. Besides, Severe Tropical Storm Halong has intensifited into a typhoon. At 11 p.m. last night, Halong was centred about 1040 kilometres south of Tokyo. It is forecast to move northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour across the seas south of Japan.

Cloudy periods in the morning and at night. The minimum temperature will be about 27 degrees in the morning. Mainly fine and very hot during the day. The maximum temperature will be around 33 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. Isolated showers in the afternoon. Light to moderate easterly winds.
